Finding Your Spark: Understanding Motivation and How to Reignite It

Motivation. It’s a word we hear often—but what does it really mean?

At its core, motivation is the reason (or reasons) we act or behave in a particular way. It’s driven by our needs, desires, wants, and internal drives. It’s the spark that gets us moving, the fuel behind our actions.

But let’s be honest—motivation isn’t always easy to come by.

When Motivation Feels Out of Reach

I’m sure you’ve had days where motivation feels miles away. I know I have.

That lack of energy, interest, and willpower to complete tasks… to do things… to get things done. When motivation dips, even the simplest task can feel overwhelming. You find every excuse not to start. You feel low, tired, uninspired. It’s far too easy to do nothing instead.

I call it the missing “oomph”—that inner push to get going. Without it, everything feels heavier.

The Magic of Momentum

But when motivation does show up, everything changes.

There’s a spark of energy that lifts you. You feel a buzz, a sense of momentum. Tasks become enjoyable—even exciting. You achieve more, and that success fuels further action. It snowballs. You feel accomplished, satisfied, and proud.

Motivation is deeply tied to emotion. The pleasure or pain we associate with a task can shape how we approach it—and whether we complete it at all.

So How Do We Break Through?

If you’re stuck in a cycle of low motivation, you’re not alone. And you’re not broken.

There are gentle, effective ways to reignite your spark—and I’ll be sharing my top tips in the next post. Think of it as a toolkit for building momentum, one small step at a time.

Stay tuned. Your spark is closer than you think.
